So far we've made borax crystal snowflakes, added some more parts to clothespin ornaments (photos to come!), and made up a batch of squirrel suet. While adding some dried fruit to the suet, I remembered the sugar plums I made last year from Use Real Butter. It seems I can't get my mind off those yummy things and may have to pick up some dates to make a small batch.

Oh, and those caramels we made the other day? I had to hide them from myself.
So. Good.
I love that this recipe has NO corn syrup in it but rather honey. They're so rich! They almost taste more like toffee than a milder caramel - thanks in part to my cast iron dutch oven retaining heat. I also waited until the end to add my homemade vanilla which raised the temperature just enough to give that nuttier flavor. You can follow the recipe here at Two Tarts.

And with that we're off to make yarn ornaments (and find my stash of caramels!) ....

Those caramels sound yummy! Not that I've been perfect but have been rather reserved about dipping into all of the holiday sugar.
ReplyDeleteI've been behaving, for the most part. Well, at least once I hid the caramels so they weren't on the counter!
